Sweet and Sour Soya Bean
Out of the cooking ingredients we buy during every trip to the market, quite
a few are made of soya bean. For example tofu, soya flour, soya
mince, etc. However, there are a few ways to cook the bean from its raw
form, for example Crispy Deep Fried Soya Bean.
Here is another simple dish that is great as a side dish with rice, or as an
alternative to baked beans.
Ingredients:
- 300g soya bean
- 250ml tomato sauce
- 40ml olive oil
- Pinch of Sea salt
- 20g brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon mixed herbs
Preparation:
- Heat a saucepan and fry the soya bean (without oil), till it starts to fragrant.
- Transfer it into a bowl of cold water, and soak till the beans have expanded
and the husks start to crumple.
- Strain completely.
- Heat oil in the saucepan, stir in tomato sauce and fry till oil turns reddish.
- Add in soya bean and 1 cup water.
- Stir constantly till it is boiling, add in sea salt and brown sugar.
- Cook on low heat till beans are soft, then increase heat again to reduce
sauce to your preferred thickness.
Versatility Note:
- You can, of course, alter the amount of tomato sauce and sugar according
to your taste. Some people like it sweeter, but some prefer it more sour-ish.
- This can also be served with a fried egg, for breakfast or lunch.
