Ideally, we all wish we can grow our own fruit and vegetable. Realistically,
not all of us can - we are either too busy, without an inch of soil, or
simply not gifted with green fingers. So the next best thing would be to
buy fresh, locally grown produce (preferably organically grown, of course).
Buying local will not only provide you the best
daily freshness and maximise the natural ingredients in your food intake, but
at the same time reduce the unnecessarily excessive packaging
to the minimal. Supporting your local farmers means we may be able to keep
the price of fresh produce down, in the long run. You will also indirectly reduce
the transportation of packed food produce that generates
unnecessary
pollution.

fruit & veg stores or butchers. The local food stores' directory will be created
by YOU, for those around you. Or, when you are abroad and wish to cook a fresh
meal, you'll know where to find them. We can only do it with your help.

What I like about it:
This little old shop on Seah Street in Singapore supplies baking ingredients
and equipments. In the middle of all those busy restaurants and modern development,
you almost don\'t notice its existence. But you can find Bicarbonate Soda (which I
use for my eco-friendly cleaning tasks), all sorts of flour, dried fruit,
recipe books, etc.

What I like about it:
A small family run business supplying a range of fruit and vegetables (locally produced where possible)
to both the public and the catering trade. They can order non-stock items such as fresh herbs and
exotic fruit and vegetables and these are usually delivered within 24 hours. They also sell loose eggs,
milk and dried herbs and spices and offer a full range of floristry services. You can keep bringing back
your old egg containers, save the environment. |
