Milo Agar Agar

Submitted by Rina

This is a very easy recipe for a simple dessert, especially for Milo lovers. Milo from Nestle is a highly popular chocolate flavoured drink in Southeast Asia. These part of the world buy Milo by the large tins! Having a cup of hot Milo before bed is equivalent to hot chocolate in the Western society. See also our Chocolate and Coconut Milk Agar-Agar for an alternative choice.

Ingredients:

  • 1 packet of white agar-agar powder (usually 35gram per packet)
  • 1 litre of milo drink (just prepare milo as how you would normally have it, except in larger amounts) Editor's note: follow instruction on the Milo container if you're new to the drink.
  • 500ml of water
  • About 6 tbsp of sugar
  • Preparation:

    1. Dissolve agar-agar powder in the milo-water mixture in a pot or deep saucepan and bring to a boil.
    2. Stir constantly to prevent the mixture from hardening at the base of the pot.
    3. Add in sugar.
    4. Pour into moulds and leave to cool for 10 mins.
    5. Chill in the refrigerator till set.

    Versatility Note:

    1. Any container can be used as a mold. I like using little cups, ice cream bowls, and ice trays with all kinds of shapes.
    2. Try our other agar-agar recipes: Adzuki Bean Agar-Agar with Coconut Milk, and Creamy Coconut Milk Agar Agar.
    3. If normal strip form agar-agar cannot be obtained, you can use powdered agar-agar too. The amount would be the same: 35 grams strip = 35 grams powder.
